I was made aware about the problem the mental illness patients face when dealing with police during the Kelly Thomas trail here in Southern California. Kelly Thomas (April 5, 1974 – July 10, 2011) was a homeless man diagnosed with schizophrenia who lived on the streets of Fullerton, California. He was beaten and ultimately killed by Jay Cicinelli, Manuel Ramos, and Joseph Wolfe, three members of the Fullerton Police Department, on July 5, 2011. Thomas was taken to St. Jude Medical Center before being transferred to the UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was comatose on arrival and not expected to recover. He never regained consciousness, and died on July 10, 201. I prey that your Holidays are full of blessings and thank you for sharing. Your experience is helping others more than you will ever know.
Thank You.Erichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12860111428968561740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8104692645589867745.post-34515657409356066952014-12-15T21:21:30.137-07:002014-12-15T21:21:30.137-07:00As always, thank you Liza for giving us a voice. Every morning I say a silent (prayer? I don't really pray) that my son will survive the day in this society. I was happy to hear from you on my email account, I have gotten out of FB because there is just too much pain there amongst the cute puppies and such. Enjoy the holidays with your family, you are all special.Alex's momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00235647426456370359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8104692645589867745.post-11052191794749034852014-12-15T06:44:11.584-07:002014-12-15T06:44:11.584-07:00Thank you for continuing to speak up for our menta...Thank you for continuing to speak up for our mentally ill kids, Liza. I am joining you in raising my voice, in telling our story and advocating for mothers and their mentally ill children.
I know I should be grateful that my adult son who has schizophrenia is still alive after an assault he committed during an untreated psychotic break but I am terrified and angry. I am terrified at how serious that illness can be and infuriated that there is no help no matter how hard we tried.
How many people is it okay to lose? How many more ruined lives are an acceptable price to pay so we can bury our heads in the sand, point fingers at exhausted, desperate mothers and gun control? Anything but face what we can't completely understand, something that is unseen and that frightens us.

It makes me happy to see your beautiful family enjoying the holidays together and I wish you all much joy!JanetDavieshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15004231421278090678noreply@blogger.com
